Selsey Press invests in one of Europe’s most advanced printing presses

A third-generation family printing business in Selsey, West Sussex, has become the first company in the UK to install one of Europe’s most advanced printing presses, marking a major investment in the future of British print manufacturing. Selsey Press has installed the new Komori G837P advance EX Edition with Autopilot technology – a cutting-edge press designed to deliver exceptional quality, efficiency and sustainability. The multi-million-pound investment strengthens the company’s position as one of the region’s leading commercial printers and increases production capacity for customers across the UK, including businesses, charities, design agencies, print management companies and trade partners.

Following several weeks of installation, testing and fine-tuning, the new press is now fully operational and delivering significant improvements in speed, quality control and production efficiency. The investment reflects Selsey Press’s long-term commitment to innovation and customer service, while reinforcing its reputation as far more than just a local printer. Producing everything from premium magazines, periodicals and special edition books to brochures, marketing materials and large-scale print campaigns, Selsey Press combines the capabilities of a major commercial printer with the personal service of an independent family business.

The installation of the new press significantly increases production capacity, allowing larger and more complex projects to be produced more efficiently while maintaining the exceptional print quality for which the company is known.

Tim Tyler, Director at Selsey Press, said:

“As a family business, we’ve always believed in investing for the long term. This is one of the most significant investments we’ve ever made and reflects our confidence in both the future of print and the customers we serve. The new press gives us the capacity, efficiency and quality control to continue growing while maintaining the personal service that has always been at the heart of Selsey Press.”

The new press features advanced automation technology capable of monitoring print quality in real time, helping to reduce waste, improve consistency and increase productivity. The Autopilot system checks every printed sheet for colour and compares each sheet to the customers artwork file – a first in the UK. The SRA1 size sheets are printed both sides at 15,000 sheets per hour, which equates to 240,000 A4 pages per hour. This enables Selsey Press to produce larger and more complex print projects more efficiently than ever before. Sustainability was a key consideration in the investment.

Selsey Press already operates with a strong commitment to sustainable printing practices, using FSC-certified papers with recycled content wherever possible and renewable energy generated through on-site solar panels. The new press further supports these ambitions through improved efficiency, reduced waste and lower energy consumption per printed page.

Robin Tyler, Director at Selsey Press, added:

“Print continues to play a vital role in helping organisations communicate, engage and inspire. By investing in the latest technology, we’re ensuring that our customers benefit from exceptional quality, faster turnaround times and a more sustainable production process.”

The installation marks the latest chapter in the company’s 60-year history and demonstrates the continued strength of British manufacturing, specialist skills and family-owned businesses in West Sussex. For Selsey Press, the investment is not simply about a new machine - it is about creating capacity for future growth, supporting customers and ensuring the company remains at the forefront of commercial print for years to come.
